The Flowerhorn cichlid is a hybrid fish with no natural wild population, bred entirely by human hands in Southeast Asia for his explosive color and that unmistakable domed forehead. He belongs to the family Cichlidae, a group known for intelligence and territorial behavior, and he lives up to both - ruling his tank with total confidence and recognizing his owner's face the way few fish ever do. That bulging crown, called a nuchal hump, is prized in the hobby as a symbol of good luck, and the bigger it grows, the more valuable the fish.
